ITRA and UTMB points
The Sfakia Sky Marathon races are registered in ITRA and UTMB. Therefore, each competitor will receive an appropriate number of points in both organizations depending on the result achieved. ITRA created a system for evaluating competitors’ achievements during mountain races several years ago, and although it is not entirely transparent to us, it presents a quite reliable points system which is known worldwide. UTMB also has its own points system. From the period when these organizations worked together, UTMB simply imported the competitors’ scores from ITRA, for a few last years, UTMB has been operating independently and has its own points system.
But it’s not all. As some of you probably know, according to the new rules, in order to take part in the draw for almost all UTMB distances (OCC, CCC, UTMB), you have to finish one of the 46 “by UTMB” races organized around the world. There are no such races in Greece. However, there is one exception: to enter for the TDS distance (148 km, +9300 m, very difficult, without lottery), you only need to have a UTMB index 100K or 100M, which means you have to start in one of races registered in UTMB which are at least 100 km long. Sfakia Sky Marathon can be a first step to participate in such competitions. We guarantee a UTMB index 50K, and training for these competitions on the routes of the White Mountains will also be very effective, although it would be best to run our route twice.
